Sophie Brampton a Level 6 Fashion Student has created these illustrations to feature in her Zine.
For my Final Major Project I am creating a zine based on the ‘Riot Grrrl’ Feminism period of the early 90’s. As part of this I am collaborating with students and creative’s to feature work on the theme of ‘womanhood’ to show life as a woman in the 21st century, and how sexism and discrimination is still an issue, especially in our ‘online’ lives. As Illustration is a specialism of mine, I have created this series titled ‘Girls’ to show the beauty of femininity and women’s characteristics.
The series is based on imagery I have found that to me symbolises confidence of being feminine but also the power to show your body and true self how you choose the world to view. In an era where we are told to love ourselves and then shamed when we do, it’s time to put our middle fingers up. It is about control and choice of what you show online and the right to be able to enjoy your body and embrace natural womanly beauty – or not, however one chooses to do so.
These Illustrations were created on Photoshop using a graphics tablet.
